Christian Pulisic decision, Hakim Ziyech dropped: The team Chelsea fans want to see vs Burnley

Chelsea host Burnley in gameweek 11 of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

The Blues go into this one heavy favourites against a Clarets side that are starting to find some much-needed form after a dismal run at the start of the season.

Meanwhile, for the European Champions, Thomas Tuchel and co. are looking to win five consecutive games in the top flight since their underwhelming home defeat to title rivals Man City at the end of September.

Going into this one, the wing-backs are currently the position where the west Londoners are getting a large abundance of goals from in the absence of star duo Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

Reece James’ double at St James’ Park last weekend, coupled with the flurry of goals that his compatriot on the other side Ben Chilwell has scored for Tuchel’s side, means that Sean Dyche’s team will need to be closing the width down on the pitch if they are to have any chance of coming away from this one with a positive result.

For the visitors, summer signing Maxwel Cornet’s electric form goes in conjunction with main talisman Chris Wood finally finding his mojo again in the recent 4-1 demolition of Brentford.

Furthermore, despite being the overwhelming underdogs in this fixture, Dyche has shown on many occasions that a well-organised team can cause an upset against many of the big so-called top six.

The Englishman though wasn’t scared to play down the magnitude of the task ahead of his side in the pre-match press conference, which was brought to you by our sister publication LancsLIve.

He said: “I think they are using good players wisely, a very strong squad

“They have spent a lot of money to strengthen, that investment, as well as the coaching, is paying off

“I thought Frank was doing a good job personally but the new manager has definitely had an effect.”

At the same time, Tuchel wasn’t blind to the fact that his opposition on Saturday come 3pm have a designated style of play that could cause him problems if not dealt with in a significant manner.

“We have come quite a long way,” the German stated when asked about his first win as Blues manager that came in the form of the 3-0 victory.

“We looked at the pictures again to understand what we did, where we have come from. We are also looking forward because everyone is talking about the difficult atmosphere you face at Burnley. It was very quick, we had only some days of preparation, now we know each other much better. You know exactly what you get when you face Burnley.

“They have a clear identity and a manager who has been in charge for many years. You can see the mentality from the coach on the pitch from his team. So we will try to have the same output that we can win. It will be a tough one. It is a nice journey so far so hopefully we will have some months to go.”

With all of this pre-match build-up taken into consideration, let’s take a look at the team Chelsea fans want to see as per the results of football.london’s latest ‘Pick the team’ widget.

The team Chelsea fans want to see (3-4-3): Mendy; Christensen, Rudiger, Alonso; James, Kante, Jorginho, Chilwell; Hudson-Odoi, Mount, Havertz.

As you can see here, Blues fans want to see some slight rotation from the team fielded against Newcastle in the last match.

The main changes come at the back and upfront with the same four in the middle the same that started against the Tynesiders in gameweek 10 of the season.

It’s surprising not to see fan favourite Ruben Loftus-Cheek given the chance to continue building up his momentum after his latest outing against Malmo in the Champions League.

Instead, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are the midfield pairing that the majority of supporters want to see with Mateo Kovacic being out through injury.

Saul Niguez still isn’t warming himself to the fans despite his decent display in the Carabao Cup against Southampton in the round of 16.

At the back, fans want to see Marcos Alonso start in a back three which is interesting to say the least with Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

The reality of the situation will probably mean this isn’t going to happen and instead, one of Trevoh Chalobah or the experienced Thiago Silva will be the final centre-half that is selected by Tuchel in this contest.

Finally, in the front three, it’s a surprise to see Hakim Ziyech not being selected considering his newfound confidence gained from scoring the winning goal midweek away to Malmo.

What’s also noticeable is that fans do no want to see Christian Pulisic being selected despite his good record against the aforementioned opposition on Saturday.

Remember, the USMNT star scored a hat-trick in one of his first outings against the side from Lancashire during the Frank Lampard reign.

Mason Mount is wanted back in the line-up after his short absence away with a non-Covid like illness that he suffered in the build-up to the long Newcastle away day midway through last week.
