Colombia welcome Brazil on Sunday with Tite’s men sitting clear at the top of the standings by eight points with a game in hand against Argentina compared with most other World Cup qualification rivals. The home side, coached by Reinaldo Rueda, are currently in fifth place, which is a playoff berth but are within two points of the two sides just in front of them — Ecuador and Uruguay.

Storylines

Colombia: One win from their last five qualifiers keeps them in contention and although they have been unbeaten since they were thumped 6-1 by Ecuador, they are yet to face the might of the Selecao Brasileira. However, Rueda’s side did draw 2-2 with Argentina back in June and beat Chile 3-1 last time they were on home soil.

Brazil:With nine wins from nine and a game in hand against Argentina, Tite and his players are cruising to Qatar and the goal will be to remain in this sort of form over the next year or so. The Brazilians beat a hapless Venezuela 3-1 last time out and they will finish this international break against Uruguay. In a quirk of the fixture list, Brazil will host Colombia before the end of the year.

Prediction

Brazil to win but only just. Colombia will push them harder than most and it would not be a total surprise if this one is a draw. Pick: Colombia 1, Brazil 2.
