Dele Alli fails to take Tottenham chance as Emerson Royal hails Antonio Conte’s mentality

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Friday, November 26.

Fringe players fail to take chance

It was a night to forget for Tottenham and Antonio Conte.

The Lilywhites conceded with the last kick of the game on Thursday evening to fall to an embarrassing 2-1 defeat against NS Mura.

Not for the first time a handful of players didn’t perform when given the opportunity, most notably the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Dele Alli and Matt Doherty.

Speaking to the media after the game, Conte didn’t hold back in his assessment at all and said some rather telling things.

“I think this team is very young but at the same time we have to work and improve because the details move the final result,” he admitted.

Emerson’s Conte verdict

In an interview with Sky Sports, Spurs defender Emerson Royal has hailed new head coach Antonio Conte, claiming that the Italian has made an instant impact in N17.

“Conte arrived with a really competitive mentality,” the 22-year-old said. “That’s not a criticism of the previous manager. He’s teaching us all to give everything.”

He added: “From day one he was very clear with us. In his opinion, Tottenham Hotspur can win trophies and can beat anyone.

“There is nothing that can stop us from doing that and that is a mentality we have to get into our head.”

Bailly interest

Tottenham have been linked with Manchester United defender Eric Bailly, with transfer expert Duncan Castles claiming that the north Londoners are interested in Bailly’s services ahead of the January window.

However, Spurs supporters didn’t react well to the links, claiming that the Ivorian isn’t good enough for Antonio Conte’s side. Here is what a select few said on Twitter.

@shaggy1712 said: “Really? Not good enough for United but good enough for us. Mmmmm.”

@Joshwiggan said: “Sanchez and Tanganga >.”

@Billytheido said: “He’s not even an option for his own club. Can’t string 2 matches together without getting injured.”

@sicknote_thfc said: “We have Sanchez who’s younger and doesn’t have injury problems. We need a ball player not another destroyer/stopper type.”

@No_6ody said: “Please no.”
