Arsenal wonderkid Folarin Balogun has provided a timely reminder of his finishing ability.
The 19-year-old made quite the impression in the Europa League group phase this season, scoring twice and registering an assist in three substitute appearances.
He’s yet to be given a Premier League debut by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who has recently spoken about his confidence in retaining the services of Balogun despite the fact the striker’s contract expires in the summer.
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah all fit and available, first-team chances have been few and far between for Balogun since the turn of the year.
In fact, he’s not made a first-team matchday squad since the Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat at the hands of Manchester City in December, playing the final 13 minutes of the 4-1 loss.
But could Balogun be handed a surprise opportunity when the Gunners host Liverpool in the Premier League next weekend?
Well, if what he did in training on Friday is anything to go by, he should at least be in contention for a place on the bench.
As spotted in Arsenal’s ‘Behind the scenes at training’ video uploaded to YouTube, Balogun along with Reiss Nelson and Gabriel Martinelli take part in a shooting practice drill.
At around the 0.43-minute mark, Balogun scores with an effort that flew into the top corner, before netting a stunning chip at the 1.00-minute mark.
There was still time for the 19-year-old to score a few more times, but his best was left for last when he humiliated the goalkeeper with an outrageous piece of skill.
All of which did not go unnoticed by Arsenal fans who commented on Balogun’s finishing prowess.
Chijioke Ikebeotu said: “Balogun’s finishing is top class.”
Jack Leclercq said: “Balogun is a hidden treasure I hope he gets game time.”
Index Techno said: “We need to put Balogun in our team now he’s really good, so is Nelson.”
