Welcome to The Arsenal Way daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Arsenal stories that you might have missed.
Arsenal’s striker hunt has become even more important in recent weeks and Edu has been handed a major boost after Torino’s revelation on the future of Andrea Belotti.
A January loan departure for Folarin Balogun is looking even more likely as another club reveals their interest.
And finally, Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have reportedly set their sights on an Arsenal defender who’s impressing out on loan. But will Mikel Arteta be keen on him leaving permanently?
Belotti bargain hunt
Torino’s club president Urbano Cairo has announced that star striker Belotti is unlikely to sign a new deal with the Serie A side.
“I do not see big chances to extend his contract, but we will see,” he told Sky Sport Italia (via FantaCalcio).
The 27-year-old striker, who has previously been linked with a switch to Arsenal, is in the final year of his contract meaning he will be free to negotiate with other clubs in January.
It’s believed Torino will also be open to offers for the Italian international in January as they look to avoid losing him for free next summer.
Our view: Well, one thing that is clear is that Arsenal need a striker. Is Belotti the answer? Maybe not, but he would certainly be a solid option if we’re unable to secure our top targets.
His record of 100 league goals in 257 appearances highlights his threat in front of goal, but consistent injury issues may be a cause for concern.
Forest come in for Balogun
Championship side Nottingham Forest have become the latest club to signal their interest in young Arsenal striker Balogun, according to John Percy of The Telegraph.
It was reported earlier this month that Arsenal believed a loan move would benefit the Hale End star as he looks to secure more first-team football.
Since then, a host of clubs from both England and abroad have put the 20-year-old at the top of their January shopping list.
Our view: Balogun hasn’t enjoyed the best of times since signing that new long-term deal with the club back in April, but a loan move would provide him with the opportunity to continue his development.
There’s no reason why he can’t improve and grow as a player before returning to become a valuable member of Mikel Arteta’s squad. He has immense potential and the future looks bright.
Dortmund consider Mavropanos
Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund are interested in Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos, according to BILD.
The centre-back is currently on loan in Germany with Stuttgart, but the Greece international is expected to leave London on a permanent deal next summer with him reportedly viewed as a ‘hot candidate’ to strengthen Marco Rose’s defence.
Mavropanos, who was spotted by former Arsenal scout Sven Mislintat, has made just eight appearances since joining the Gunners back in 2018.
Our view: With several central defenders already ahead in the pecking order at Arsenal, it’s no surprise to see Mavropanos linked with a move away.
It’s a shame in one aspect as I actually think there’s a talented player in there somewhere, but you have to consider how much he would actually play if he was to stay, especially with William Saliba returning.
Hopefully, Edu can negotiate a decent fee and put the money towards more pressing matters within Arteta’s squad.
