Scottish outfit Hibernian have slapped a £5million asking price on Arsenal target Josh Doig, football.london understands.
The Gunners, who will discover their Premier League fixture list for the 2021/22 season a week today, are desperate to add a left-back to their ranks this summer after failing to bring one in during the January transfer window.
Despite being linked with several options, including former Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand and Tyrick Mitchell of Crystal Palace, the Gunners were unsuccessful in their efforts to draft in a new left-sided full-back.
Currently, Kieran Tierney, who will be looking to impress at Euro 2020 for Scotland from this summer, is the Gunners’ only out-and-out left-back at the club at senior level, meaning adding competition for places in that position is a top priority for manager Mikel Arteta this summer.
Although several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent months to challenge Tierney for the left-back berth, the Gunners’ interest in Scotsman Doig is genuine, with the club having been a keeping a watchful eye on his progress for several months.
Despite being interested in landing the 19-year-old’s signature, Arsenal are yet to approach Hibernian with a formal offer.
But even if Arsenal were to submit a bid for the highly-rated youngster, those close to Doig believe that he will not end up at Arsenal this summer.
Despite his tender age, he is keen to nail down a starting berth at first-team level week-in, week-out, meaning he is unlikely to win that at the Emirates Stadium with Tierney ahead of him in the pecking order.
Watford are another Premier League club to have been linked with making a move for Doig, meaning he could favour a switch to Vicarage Road, as first-team football would be more likely to be offered there than in north London.
The summer window is officially open, and it’s going to be tough to keep up with the comings and goings in and out of the Emirates.

But even if the Gunners do not sign Doig this summer, drafting in another left-back is a top priority for the club, as was proven when Granit Xhaka, who is close to sealing a move to Roma, had to slot in at left-back to cover for the injured Tierney towards the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
Arsenal, football.london understands, are keen to sign five new players this summer, as Arteta looks to try and turn the club back into a competitive force that can compete higher up the Premier League table.
As well as wanting to sign a left-back, adding a new goalkeeper, right-back, central-midfielder and central attacking-midfielder are all believed to be on Arteta’s wish list.
