El Salvador will try to keep its dimming chances of making its first World Cup appearance in nearly four decades alive this week with a must-win match against Panama on Thursday. Rolando Blackburn has been Panama’s most inspired player in 2022 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying as of late, with two goals over his last two matches. El Salvador has only allowed three goals in three games in the final round of qualifying, but its offense has looked sluggish. You can catch all the action live on Paramount+.
Kickoff is set for 10:05 p.m. ET at Estadio Cuscatian in San Salvador. Both teams are +175 (risk $100 to win $175) on the 90-minute money line in the latest El Salvador vs. Panama odds. For Panama vs. El Salvador, Gonzalez is backing under 2.5 goals (-290). Panama scored four goals over the course of its last three qualifying matches, but three came against a shorthanded Jamaica team on September 5. El Salvador’s top scorer for 2021, Joaqin Rivas, had two goals against Qatar in the Gold Cup on July 24, but hasn’t found the back of the net since.
The scoring drought should carry on for both sides in a match that is likely to get bogged down in the midfield. The recent lack of offensive chemistry for either team doesn’t appear likely to resolve itself in time for Thursday’s match.
“El Salvador has yet to score in qualifying, and Panama is averaging just over a goal per game,” Gonzalez told SportsLine. “These are two teams that really have very little quality going forward, and Panama will be glad with a draw here if that is how things are looking late.”
