Emile Smith Rowe can get his dream Arsenal shirt number if Mikel Arteta and Edu seal transfer

Emile Smith Rowe’s dream of becoming the next Arsenal no.10 could be realised this summer.

The iconic shirt number become vacant at the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window after Mesut Ozil ‘s move to Fenerbahce was completed.

And several members of the Arsenal first-team squad have already showed an interest in replacing the German playmaker – in terms of squad numbers – for the beginning of the 2021/22 season.

One being on-loan midfielder Martin Odegaard. Prior to taking the No.11 upon arriving in January from La Liga giants Real Madrid, it was reported in Spain that he had initially requested to wear No.10.

However, the report claims that it was explained to Odegaard that No.10 has already been earmarked for Smith Rowe.

But it’s safe to say that Lacazette is hopeful that this particular scenario doesn’t happen.

Taking to social media to indirectly deliver his verdict on Ozil’s move to Fenerbahce – before it had been completed – the Frenchman appeared to have given the deal his seal of approval.

Just so he could lay claim to the No.10 shirt.

As seen in the Instagram Stories image below, Lacazette posted an image of himself and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from a training session at London Colney with a caption that reads: “When you both want the number 10,” with an emoji that many can relate to.

It’s not the first time that Lacazette has teased that he favours no.10.

Taking to Instagram shortly after Ozil was given the no.10 ahead of the 2018/19 season, Lacazette joked that he was the real owner of the shirt number after posing for a picture wearing the midfielder’s training top.

“The Real Number 10,” Lacazette posted.” @m10_official sorry bro.”

Lacazette did wear no.10 at Lyon for several seasons prior to joining the Gunners where he was given the no.9 instead.

And it seems he won’t get the chance to wear No.10 at Arsenal with football.london reporting the Gunners are more than happy to let the Frenchman leave if the right offer comes in this summer.

As a result, if manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu are able to seal this particular transfer then Smith Rowe remains on course to get his dream Arsenal shirt number without too much of a battle.
