Erling Haaland to Chelsea transfer: £68m release clause, contract demands, Man United problem

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is arguably the most sought after player in world football.

The 21-year-old has been in scintillating form since making his debut for the club in January 2020 following a £17 million move from RB Salzburg.

Last season Haaland scored a remarkable 41 goals in as many appearances for Dortmund, also notching an impressive 12 assists.

He has started this campaign in similar fashion with 13 goals in 10 games, the Norwegian’s outstanding form has seen him linked with a number of European football’s leading clubs including Chelsea.

Speculation surrounding Haaland’s future is set to intensify due to the clause he reportedly has in his contract, allowing him to leave Signal Iduna Park for £68 million in the summer of 2022.

Chelsea could be set to receive Haaland boost

The future of Haaland is one of football’s most talked about topics, and given his sensational start to the new season it’s easy to see why Chelsea are eager to sign him.

The only problem for the Blues is that a number of Europe’s leading clubs are also interested in acquiring his services, including Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City.

United seemingly pose the biggest threat – the Dortmund star has spoken regularly in the past of his admiration for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, if the under-fire United boss were to be sacked it could prove a huge boost in Chelsea’s pursuit if their pursuit of the striker.

Chelsea told to stump up for Haaland

Chelsea would reportedly have to make Haaland the highest-paid player in the club’s history, should they pursue a deal for the striker next summer.

He was strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge during the summer, but a deal for the striker failed to materialise and the Blues eventually signed Romelu Lukaku instead.

Despite the signing of the Belgium international for a club record £97.5 million, the rumours linking Haaland with a move to west London continue to persist.

However, according to ESPN, the 21-year-old is demanding a pay packet of £30million a year – which works out as a weekly wage of approximately £500,000.
