A point won or two points lost?
Your always caught between and for sure you see a team here that has tried to win the game. On the scale of the opportunities we created we fully deserved to win the game and fell short in that. Defensively we were very good, you’re playing a team in Crystal Palace who are very organised and sit off play a lot. You’ve got to jab and probe your way in at times. To start we didn’t do that well enough and second half we changed it positionally and created enough changes there to win the game. Not meant to be, disappointed of course because we wanted to come here and win the game. It’s a clean sheet, defensively I thought we looked very good and in my position, you perform the way we did today, law of averages, you win it more than you lose or draw. There’s a mixture here, but we move on now. It’s a big point for us and we keep moving on.
Where do you see your next three points coming from?
The next game. I see points from the next game. I believe in this team, the team believe as well. I believe we can beat Spurs, I believe we can go into Thursday’s game and cause them problems and go into it trying to win the game. I understand the challenges, that’s the Premier League. I firmly believe we’ll recoup now and we’ll prepare for another tough game against Spurs.
What enabled you to turn things around in the second half?
We changed it positionally. First half we had control but we were up against a stubborn team.Postionally we fixed that at half time and it worked very well. Committed more bodies forward in areas we could hurt them. We created some good chances really, that was the main reason.
Was Ola Aina substitution a tactical decision or did he pick up a knock?
Tactical yeah. Just felt that’s what we needed down that side, so made that decision and I think it worked. Nothing to do with Ola, it was just the way I saw the game and felt what we needed second half. Antonee Robinson gave us that positionally, moving players inside a bit more helps us.
Period in the second half where Fulham raised game, was that key moment?
I always knew how the game would pan out against this Crystal Palace team, the game would probably be decided on one goal and when we had that ascendancy and had the moments where we had them on the ropes, one of them needed to go in.
Marek Rodak was missing, how is he?
He’s struggling a little bit with a finger injury. He picked it up yesterday in training. Too early to know where we are but tomorrow he’s going to see a specialist tomorrow and we’ll have a clearer picture then.
Tottenham and Liverpool up next, important going into them with momentum?
Definitely. Momentum is certainly with us in terms of the last 16/17 games. Momentum, belief, confidence, the way we’re playing is certainly there, it’s been key.
Every game in this division is tough so of course you understand fixtures coming along are tougher than others but we’ve shown we can compete against any team in this division so I hope that’s not going to be any different in the fixtures coming up.
How confident are you that your strikers have the ability to score the goals to get out of this situation?
I see these players every day. I’m confident in what I see. I’m confident because I see the attacking players coming in every single day trying to improve and get better. Of course, in match situations and in games if there’s one thing you can aim at us it is we’ve not managed to kill games off.
I always say it’s a young team, a team where a lot of these players are around the Premier League for the first time. What I want is a real honesty that we keep trying to improve. Life tells me that if you do that, things change. We’ve got unbelievable quality here in that sense, it’s now trying to get that to click in the key moments.
The numbers we produce today in terms of chances we created I believe over the course of a season they do go in and you do win them. That’s my biggest positive
I’d be more concerned if we weren’t creating those chances or if we were looking to score a goal from a set play or the odd counter-attack and then hold on. That’s not the case. This is a team that is front foot, aggressive, want to win games and are dynamic in their moments. You’re constantly working on the next thing and that is now can we be clinical and take them moments.
