Ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho could provide Blues with £28m transfer windfall with move rumoured

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho could potentially provide the club with a £28m transfer injection as he is reportedly eyeing defender Kurt Zouma.

Reports from telefoot in France suggest that the Frenchman is “expected” to leave Chelsea this summer, with plenty of interested parties eyeing his signature.

As per the reports, the Blues’ Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers have already had an offer rejected by Zouma himself, whilst the likes of Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are also potentially interested in a move.

Meanwhile, there are also admiring glances from abroad from Italian giants AS Roma, who are thought to be interested in a loan deal with an option to buy.

Zouma is currently valued at £28m by transfermarkt and has just two years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman has endured a rollercoaster period with Chelsea since his 2014 arrival from Saint Etienne.

He won the Premier League in his first season with the club, before injury then hugely hampered his contributions for the next two campaigns.

The 26-year-old was then sent out on-loan to Stoke City and Everton before re-establishing himself in the side under former boss Frank Lampard.

The summer window is officially open and now the Blues can look to build on European glory and bolster the squad to push for Premier League supremacy.

Despite enjoying a promising start to the 2020/21 season, he made just ten starts in all competitions under Thomas Tuchel, which included just one appearance in the Blues’ glorious run in the Champions League.

He is presented with plenty of defensive competition in west London at the current time, with the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta all capable of playing at centre-back, whilst Malang Sarr has also returned from his loan spell at FC Porto and could be another option for Tuchel.

Should Zouma depart for Roma, he would become the second Chelsea defender to swap the Premier League for Serie A after Fikayo Tomori’s permanent move to AC Milan.
