Mikel Arteta has started to call upon Martin Odegaard more regularly and the supporters have enjoyed what they have seen so far.
After signing on loan from Real Madrid in the final days of the January transfer window, Odegaard was handed a few cameos in the Premier League.
His first start came in last weekend’s 4-2 victory over Leeds United, where the Norwegian midfielder impressed, and he was given an opportunity from the start once again in the Europa League.
While Arsenal still have a lot of work to do following their 1-1 draw in the first-leg of their clash against Benfica, the performance of Odegaard caught the eye.
Fans were originally concerned by what the signing of Odegaard would mean for Emile Smith Rowe, but the fact that the pair have both started together in the past two matches is an encouraging sign.
While Thursday’s match wasn’t the best for Smith Rowe, who conceded a second-half penalty for handball, Odegaard’s display got fans on social media talking.
The 22-year-old found plenty of space in the game, particularly in the first half, although frustratingly this often was picked up by his teammates.
His ability on the ball in regards to passing continued to impress though, as did his tracking back to help defensively – something fans were regular frustrated by with Mesut Ozil, who didn’t contribute much off the ball.
All the signs are positive and fans are hopeful that Odegaard will continue to shine over the course of the coming weeks.
