Former Tottenham star Michael Dawson disagrees with Gary Neville over Harry Kane transfer

Tottenham Hotspur got their Premier League campaign off to the best possible start after they defeated Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday.

It was a near-perfect afternoon for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side as Son Heung-min struck the only goal of the game in a hard-fought success over the reigning champions.

The Blues handed a league debut to £100 million man Jack Grealish, whilst Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne also featured, but Spurs proved to be too strong for Pep Guardiola’s men.

However, a major talking point before the game was the omission of Harry Kane as he continues to be linked with a move away from the club.

Coincidentally, City are one of those who have reportedly lined up a bid for the 28-year-old but Espirito Santo confirmed in his pre-match press conference that he trained with Spurs at Hostpur Way on Friday morning.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the match, Gary Neville shared his thoughts on the situation and was surprised that Kane wasn’t included in their matchday squad.

The Manchester United legend said: “I just read into the fact that because he was not involved today, every other England player that has been part of the Euros I believe has been involved this weekend, whether it was from the bench or in the squad.

“Harry Kane would be here today. I feel if there was no doubt over his future, I took into it that he has gone.

“Him not being visible in the stadium, a prominent player, the most prominent Tottenham player, first game of the season not visible in this stadium.

“We have a lot of cameras and I bet they were searching for him everywhere and to not see him today is a surprise.”

After returning to Tottenham training on Friday, Kane has reportedly been preparing for a return to action in a Spurs shirt when they make their Europa Conference League bow at Pacos De Ferreira in mid-week.

Recently-appointed Tottenham ambassador Michael Dawson also gave his reaction on the matter and he strongly disagreed with Neville, stating that he believes Kane will still be a Spurs player by the end of the window.

He said: It has been going on for a long time and it was no surprise that he wasn’t involved today as he’s only been back in training for two or three days and he’s been isolating since he’s come back.

“When we see Harry Kane back in a Spurs shirt, the fans will love him, he is an absolute legend of the club and I still believe he will be here.

“He’s got three years left and his price is going to cost Manchester City a ridiculous amount of money. If they are going to get Harry Kane, it’s going to be at least £160m.”

There’s just over two weeks to go until the summer transfer window shuts and Kane’s future will no doubt be a major talking point from now until August 31.
