Welcome to football.london’s live coverage of Scott Parker’s press conference following Fulham’s
Aleksandar Mitrovic starting was the big pre-match talking point as Parker rewarded the Serbian’s international form with a place in the XI. The forward showed early glimpes of his ability and earned a few strikes on goal but couldn’t find a way through in the opening half.
The game was tight and fractuous with plenty of fouls.
Dean Smith and co thought Aston Villa had a penalty when a clumsy touch from Mario Lemina nearly let Ollie Watkins in but VAR overturned the call, as Lemina had one the ball first.
The second period was equally as tight with Fulham perhaps edging the chances. Emi Martinez wasn’t really challenged until Tyrone Mings’ back pass was picked up by Mitrovic who coolly finished past the keeper to give the Cottagers the lead.
It looked like plain sailing until the introduction of Trezeguet. The midfielder found a brace before Ollite Watkins completed Villa’s comeback as the Cottagers had a nightmare end to the game.
