Gary Lineker knows exactly what it takes to score goals for England, he is one of just two Englishmen to win a World Cup golden boot, the other? Harry Kane.
This makes Lineker’s recent praise towards Kane all the more fitting, given the pair’s track record at international level.
Kane delivered a stunning performance as England triumphed over Albania in the second of their World Cup qualifiers.
The Tottenham superstar notched the first goal in a 2-0 victory, before setting up Mason Mount for the second to conclude yet another stellar performance from England’s skipper as the Three Lions made it two wins from two at the start of their World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign.
Gareth Southgate’s men found it difficult to raise their intensity levels in the opening half hour against Albania, after seeing out the entirety of Thursday’s game against lowly minnows San Marino without getting out of first gear.
However, Kane went some way to dusting off any cobwebs by getting on the end of a delicate Luke Shaw cross with a thumping header.
It was this act of superb striker’s work that led Lineker to take to social media and lavish the forward in praise, describing Kane as “irrepressible”.
Kane could have had a second almost immediately after, but this time his right-footed effort rattled the frame of the Albanian goal before bouncing out.
Chelsea’s young star Mason Mount capped off a successful evening by converting his chance, expertly provided by Kane to help get England over the line.
Kane’s opener was his first England goal for more than 500 days, his last before the opener coming in November 2019.
Though he has struggled for goals in an England shirt recently, this has not translated into his Tottenham form, with Kane boasting 22 goals on top of 15 assists in all competitions this campaign.
