Gary Lineker sends Arsenal fans Daniel Ek warning as supporters clamour for takeover

Daniel Ek’s proposed deal to buy Arsenal has gathered pace since the Arsenal fan protests of last week with reports that Thierry Henry, Patrick Viera and Dennis Bergkamp are on board with the Spotify owner’s plans.

Ek delighted fans last week when he tweeted his interest in buying the club from Stan Kroenke and KSE, and came forward as a lifelong Gunner’s fan and now Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has revealed some further information.

“We’re told Ek is someone who lives, breathes and sleeps Arsenal – he’s a total Arsenal obsessive and only wants what is best for the club,” Solhekol said.

The reporter added news that will delight the Arsenal fan base: “Ek is open to having fan representation on the Arsenal board if he buys the club.”

However, former England captain Gary Lineker has voiced his concerns about Ek, pointing out his controversial treatment of musicians on the Swede’s Spotify platform.

In a series of tweets, Lineker said: “This is a big part of the problem. Fans want these billionaires to buy their clubs….just hoping for better billionaires than the ones they already have.” when replying to AFTV Media who said that Ek “is the kind of guy we want running our club.”

One fan replied to the Match of the Day host that Ek was different because “he’s not just a billionaire, he’s a fan – unlike Kroenke”, to which Lineker replied:

“You’re proving the point by already looking for any positive. I’m sure all these owners want the team to do well. This one has not exactly been generous to musicians, but I’m sure he’d be different with footballers and your club. If it happens, I hope it works for you….but.”

With the discontent around Arsenal’s current ownership, it is no surprise that fans are keen for a new person at the helm.
