Graeme Souness gives savage verdict on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min after Spurs’ Man United loss

Graeme Souness has declared that Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are a shadow of their former selves following a woeful defeat to Manchester United.

Spurs’ loss at United came on the back of a poor performance in front of the home fans, with the hosts failing to register a single shot on target.

The loss has increased pressure upon Nuno Espirito Santo, with his team booed off at both the interval and the end of the match – as well as receiving a negative reaction for his decision to substitute Lucas Moura for Steven Bergwijn.

However, Souness believes that the performance wasn’t simply down to the manager though and instead is evidence of a rapid decline in recent years.

“Harry has scored one goal this year and goals paint a different picture for you and your team – he’s not scoring goals, he looks a shadow of himself. Son is a shadow of himself,” he told Sky Sports.

“Spurs have a long way to go before they excite this crowd. Two and a half years ago they were in a champions league final and they’ve gone from that level to where they are now.

“That is a dramatic drop in quality and performances. They look a sorry bunch.

“I mean you take a victory no matter how it comes – this was a perfect game for Man United. Come here, Spurs are toothless, that stats tell you that.

“Not a shot on target. They rely on the people with a spark – Harry Kane, Son, Moura – none of them did that today.

“They all look a shadow of what they’ve been in the recent past. I think Spurs are a team who have played ten games now, won five lost five – if you’re a Spurs supporter you’re turning up here not knowing what you’re going to get.

“They’re toothless. It might be harsh but the stats tell you that. Very, very average.”
