The summer transfer window, technically, is not open yet but one surprise rumour has garnered a big reaction amongst Arsenal fans.
As reported on Wednesday night, Emile Smith Rowe is apparently on Aston Villa’s radar.
That’s according to the Telegraph, who claim Villa – who signed Emiliano Martinez from the Gunners last summer in a deal worth around £20m – ‘hold an interest’ in the attacking midfielder following his breakthrough season.
In addition, the report states that because Smith Rowe only has another two years remaining on his current Arsenal contract, Villa are trying to take advantage of this, with Dean Smith keen on him and Emiliano Buendia.
Now the good news for the north London outfit is that the 20-year-old has already made his feelings clear about the club amid talk of a shock exit.
“I can’t really describe the feeling, to be honest,” Smith Rowe said on Arsenal’s official YouTube channel back in February.
“Being an Arsenal fan from such a young age, getting an opportunity to help put on the Arsenal shirt and step out on that pitch, there’s really no better feeling for me.”
And judging by most responses from Arsenal fans on social media, they are keen for Smith Rowe to sign his new contract and help lead the club back to challenging for major trophies.
However, there are some supporters that wouldn’t be against the idea of the midfielder leaving – as long as it includes a certain Jack Grealish going in the opposite direction in a swap deal.
