Hector Bellerin might have made the decision regarding his long-term Arsenal future even easier to make.
The 26-year-old will have 12 months remaining on his contract with the Gunners when his season-long loan spell at Real Betis comes to an end next summer and he’s hinted at not returning to north London.
“I don’t know, but I have always said if I did not want to be here next season, I would not have come from the beginning,” he told El Desmarque last month when asked about what the future holds for him.
“There are many things to be decided but what I want to do is enjoy this season that I am here, and what has to happen will happen.”
That is judging by the reaction on Reddit following the defender being shown a red card on his latest outing for Real Betis.
With the visitors 3-0 in their La Liga clash away at Elche on Sunday night, Bellerin was giving his marching orders in the 68th minute after being adjudged to have brought down Tete Morente.
Despite protesting his innocence, the fact right-back was the last man meant he headed down the tunnel for an early shower.
Luckily for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, the sending-off wasn’t too costly as they saw out the remaining 20+ minutes to remain fifth in the table – six points off leaders Real Madrid and four clear of Bellerin’s boyhood club Barcelona.
Whilst Belleirn’s tackle was worthy of a straight red has been debated, the concern amongst many Gunners supporters is that he lost a foot race against Morente even though he had a headstart.

Halbridious said: “That’s a relatively generous call on a bit of a flop, but I think it’s more concerning that Hector is doing the tricks of a man who can be out-raced to the ball.
“Hector pre-injury has 2 yards on basically anyone there.”
