‘Hope Jose is watching’ – Tottenham fans in awe of Joe Rodon moment for Wales vs Czech Republic

Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon drew praise from all quarters after helping Wales to a narrow World Cup qualifying victory over the Czech Republic.

Rodon, who joined Spurs in the summer from Swansea City, played the full 90 minutes at the heart of the Wales defence as they won 1-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium.

In a game where both sides were reduced to 10 men in the second half, Dan James scored the only goal, heading home with eight minutes remaining from a stunning left-wing cross from Tottenham’s Gareth Bale.

But it was Rodon who stole the headlines after that, somehow producing a match-winning block two minutes into added time. With the ball pulled across the six-yard box to Ondrej Celustka, the Czech defender looked set to draw his side level, only for Rodon to throw himself in front of the shot and divert the ball over the top.

It rightly drew huge on-field congratulations from his teammates – as well as from the watching Spurs fans from afar.

Here’s what was said on social media on Rodon’s performance.

@OsmondAdan: What a block by Joe Rodon.

I said it before… I’ll say it again.

Our best defender at Spurs.

@ayers79: Great win for Wales, but that block by Rodon at the end was unbelievable! Has to start for Spurs every game now. He won everything.

@mitchellbarry: Joe Rodon absolutely sensational again for Wales. Has to be first choice CB for Spurs from now on.

@onlyspurs: Good win by Wales… from a Spurs point of view, what a ball by Bale and WHAT a block by Rodon.

@SpursNews1961: A lot of Rodon love on Twitter this evening; put in one hell of a performance for Wales by all accounts.

@USpursofA: JOE RODON SAVES WALES. Let’s please give this young man the chance he deserves the rest of the season.

@spurs_dylan: Brilliant defending by Rodon there. Hope Jose is watching. He should definitely get a run in the team.
