Houssem Aouar responds to report his ‘agent’ is in London to finalise Arsenal transfer

Reported Arsenal transfer target Houssem Aouar has appeared to reject rumours of an imminent switch to the Emirates Stadium with his latest social media activity.

The French midfielder has been strongly linked once again with Arsenal in recent days.

Reports out of France suggested that he had missed Lyon training in order to force through a move, suggestions that were later vehemently denied by the player himself.

That has done nothing to dampen rumours with Le 10 Sport then reporting that the Gunners had actually launched a formal offer for the Lyon man and were hoping to secure his signature for between £17million to £21.4million.

Arsenal fans were then sent into overdrive after an Instagram story appeared to show Aouar’s brother and agent in London.

Speculation then naturally flew as to a potential imminent deal taking Aouar to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

However, journalist Bilel Ghazi denied such claims, taking to his own personal account to tweet: “Except that it is not the brother of Houssem Aouar. Just a friend.”

Aouar himself then doubled down on the truth of the matter by retweeting the statement via his own account, no doubt disappointing a vast majority of Arsenal fans who see the 23-year-old as an ideal addition to the squad.

He then took to Instagram to further refute the rumours via a story stating: “Guys leave him. He is one of my best friends not my real brother. By the way… not my agent also.”

The summer window is officially open, and it’s going to be tough to keep up with the comings and goings in and out of the Emirates.

football.london understands that Mikel Arteta is indeed keen on signing a creative central midfielder having been linked with the likes of Martin Odegaard, James Maddison and Emiliano Buendia throughout the summer.

Aouar scored eight goals and notched four assists in all competitions last season as Lyon finished fourth.

He still has two years left to run on his contract at the Groupama Stadium.
