How Harry Kane ‘annoyed’ Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on England duty

Manchester United and England winger Jadon Sancho has revealed that Tottenham forward Harry Kane left him frustrated when he was not allowed to take a penalty in a match against Kosovo in 2019.

Sancho, 21, moved to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in the summer for a transfer reportedly worth over £75million after the youngster showed much promise at both domestic and international level.

He made the move to Germany from local rivals Manchester City, where his real breakthrough at senior level took place.

Sancho scored 50 goals and assisted 66 times in all competitions for Dortmund, winning the DFB Pokal in his final season at the club.

In that time, he also made his breakthrough into the international stage for England, and scored his first two goals in a 5-3 victory over Kosovo in 2019.

His first of the evening was a clinical finish to beat both the defender and the goalkeeper at the near post.

The second goal was a comfortable poke home into an open net, with the goalkeeper rushing out to close Raheem Sterling, leaving the ball to drop kindly to Sancho.

He could have had a hat-trick when England won a penalty in the second half. Ross Barkley’s mazy run took him into the 18-yard-box before he was tripped for the spot kick.

With Sancho on a hat-trick, he had an opportunity to reach a feat few players manage, but England captain Kane stepped up instead.

Whilst his penalty record is good, Manchester City goalkeeper Arijanet Muric was equal to the shot and denied him a second goal of the evening.

In a video on the England YouTube channel, Sancho reveals that he did ask Kane for the penalty, but was told he couldn’t have it to complete his hat-trick: “I was annoyed though, at Harry Kane.

“He doesn’t know this but there was a penalty and I was on two goals, I looked at him and said ‘bro?’ but he said no.

“It’s cool though, Harry, it’s cool. I’m joking.”

The winger seemed in good spirit about it, despite the disappointment to not complete the hat-trick. As for Kane, he is six England goals away from breaking the goal scoring record of 53 set by Wayne Rooney.
