Arsenal paid Flamengo a fee of £6.8million for Pablo Mari up front before making his loan move permanent, according to the Brazilian club’s financial reports.
So it was a good job they had already done their homework on the financials of the deal involving defender Mari before making his move permanent.
Mari joined the Gunners on a permanent deal from Flamengo in the summer having spent the second half of last season on loan from the Brazilian club, making just three appearances.
Despite that lack of game time, Arsenal opted to make his move permanent, but that may have always been the plan.
As reported by Sports Witness, Flamengo sent off their financial report for approval from board members this week, and it appears to show that Arsenal got Mari for virtually free this summer having already paid the upfront fee last season, when he joined on loan.

It is claimed that Arsenal paid £6.8million for Mari’s season on loan with the understanding that when it came to making the move permanent, no further fee would be due.
Mari has since made 10 senior appearances, playing seven times in the Premier League and twice in the Europa League so far this season.
