‘I really like Arsenal’ – £25m-rated striker sends summer transfer message to Mikel Arteta

Genk striker Paul Onuachu has admitted that he would love to play for Arsenal given their history of developing exciting forwards.

Arsenal are set for a busy summer in the transfer market as Mikel Arteta looks to overhaul a squad that has consistently underperformed in recent years.

football.london understands that the Gunners are looking to bring in five new players this summer, with a centre-back, two fullbacks and two midfielders all target areas in a bid to compete for the Champions League next season.

They have identified Brighton’s Ben White as one of their main targets and are set to complete a £50m transfer deal for the defender.

However, given Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah both could potentially be on the way out of North London this summer, the Gunners have also been linked with a plethora of strikers – including Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Eintracht Frankfurt frontman Andre Silva.

A cheaper option that they could target in the coming months is Genk centre-forward Paul Onuachu, who bagged 35 goals across all competitions last term.

The Nigerian international has been linked to West Ham United in recent weeks but he has made it no secret that a move to the Emirates would be his ideal destination.

“I really like Arsenal. (Emmanuel) Adebayor was one of the players I admired the most who played there. I really was a fan of him, as well as Kanu. I really love watching Arsenal too,” he told Voetbal Nieuws.

Onuachu certainly possesses the physicality that is required in the English top flight, standing at a whopping 6ft 7inches, making him a useful aerial threat, something the Gunners have severely lacked since Olivier Giroud’s departure in January 2018.

Given the 27-year-old is reportedly available this summer for just £25million, he could be the ideal candidate to replace Lacazette or Nketiah, while also allowing Arteta to spend large amounts of money on a creative number ten and a box-to-box midfielder that would complement Thomas Partey.
