Arsenal legend Ian Wright has told his former club to ‘make sure’ they sign Martin Odegaard permanently this summer.
Odegaard has made quite the impact since arriving on a loan deal towards the end of the January transfer window, making the temporary switch from Real Madrid.
The Norwegian had to make do with appearances off the bench initially, but he is now nearing undroppable territory, filling the creative void in midfield that the Gunners have struggled to fill after the departure of the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil.
Odegaard’s latest display saw him impress again, playing a key role in the build-up to the equaliser, playing in Nicolas Pepe to set up Alexandre Lacazette, who headed home at the far post.
And on the back of that, Arsenal legend Wright has told the Gunners to do what it takes to sign Odegaard, telling Premier League Productions of his former side’s performance against West Ham: “In the end, the character that they showed was magnificent.
“Martin Odegaard, he is someone they do need to make sure they make that signing if they can. He did really come to the fore today.”
Odegaard has a release clause worth more than £300million at Real Madrid, who are likely to play hardball over a possible departure, still believing the playmaker has a big future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Zinedine Zidane was actually reluctant to lose Odegaard on loan, wanting the Norwegian to battle for a place in his team, but he decided to grant his loan request.

Odegaard also impressed out on loan last season, performing brilliantly for Real Sociedad, and it was thought he would play a significant part for Real Madrid this season.
But in the first half of the campaign, he featured sparingly for La Real, leading to his loan request.
It will be interesting to see whether Odegaard does not want to return to Real Madrid after this season, but it’s likely it will depend on whether he can get some assurance over game time, and with uncertainty surrounding Zidane’s future, it’s likely nothing will be decided until he summer.
Though, the more Odegaard impresses, the more likely it is that Real Madrid will want him back ahead of next season, highlighting the uphill battle Arsenal have to land him permanently.
