Jamie Redknapp rethinks Tottenham ‘slight favourites’ claim after Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Chelsea

Jamie Redknapp has claimed Arsenal are ‘slight favourites’ to finish fourth following their 4-2 win at Chelsea on Wednesday evening. The win means Mikel Arteta’s side are level on points with fourth placed Tottenham with six games remaining for both clubs.

Arsenal opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge through Eddie Nketiah, but the Blues equalised moments later through Timo Werner. Emile Smith Rowe put the Gunners 2-1 up after a scintillating counter-attack, but Cezar Azpilicueta’s strike ensured both teams went in level at the break.

However, a second for Nketiah and a stoppage time penalty from Bukayo Saka sealed a priceless win for Mikel Arteta’s side, after a run of three successive defeats. Redknapp hailed the Spaniard for tweaking Arsenal’s formation during the contest, and claimed it was a ‘massive’ result in their quest to bring Champions League football back to the Emirates.

“He (Arteta) changed the system today, swapping from a four to a three at times, but it was a massive result. There is no underestimating how big this result is and gaining that momentum. Redknapp said on Sky Sports after the game.

“They have some really tough games coming up with Manchester United at the weekend, and Tottenham Hotspur also, but it gets them right back up there, and they could be the slight favourites now in the race for the top four.”

Arsenal can move three points clear of Spurs if they beat Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime with their north London rivals not kicking-off until 5:30. Meanwhile, Antonio Conte’s side face a tricky trip to in-form Brentford who have won their last three games in a row.
