Jonas Hofmann issues update on his future as Chelsea eye £14m transfer

Borussia Monchengladbach winger Jonas Hofmann, who is a reported target for Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window, has issued an update on his future, hinting that a club has already expressed an interest in his services.

The Germany international, who is 28-years-old, was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge last month as Thomas Tuchel looks to try and put his own stamp of authority on the squad he inherited from former Blues chief Frank Lampard.

Hofmann has been producing an array of impressive performances for Monchengladbach in recent months, scoring seven goals and racking up 11 assists in all competitions so far this term.

With that in mind, it is little surprise that Chelsea, as well as other suitors, are keen on signing him, with his stock continuing to rise.

Although Hofmann has not directly confirmed or denied that Chelsea are the club who has expressed an interest in signing him this summer, he has admitted that he is currently happy at Monchengladbach and is trying to remain focused on the task that lies in front of him.

“Basically, I feel good at Borussia; I’ve always emphasised that,” the Germany international told Ruhr Nachrichten, as cited by Sport Witness.

“It may be that one or the other club has expressed its interest.

“Nevertheless, for me, the absolute focus is on having a successful season with Borussia and dedicating myself fully to success. I put my personal situation under it.”

When directly asked if Chelsea were the club that had showed an interest in his services, Hofmann added: “I think it’s clear that other clubs will notice you if you perform well. Therefore, it is possible that one or the other has already asked.”

Should Hofmann join Chelsea this summer it would mean a reunion with Tuchel. The duo crossed paths during their time at Borussia Dortmund, but the former left just seven months into the German’s tenure in charge.

Although he did not figure in Tuchel’s plans at Dortmund, the right-winger has since gone on to star for Monchengladbach, scoring 12 goals and claiming 14 assists since the start of last season.

Hofmann is contracted to the Bundesliga club until the end of the 2022/23 season and is said to be valued at around £14million.
