Jonathan David to Arsenal transfer: Calvert-Lewin alternative, Liverpool and Real Madrid latest

Is Jonathan David heading to the Emirates?

The 21-year-old, who is currently the top scorer in France with 12 league goals, has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, with many clubs interested in acquiring his signature.

The striker situation at Arsenal is concerning as Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette has only managed 2 Premier League goals this season whilst Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future is in serious doubt following his latest disciplinary breach.

It’s therefore expected that the Gunners will be in the hunt for a new frontman in the winter window and given the fact that David is a reliable goalscorer, presses from the front and is still very young, his potential acquisition would make perfect sense.

With Arsenal looking to secure European qualification following a strong showing thus far, football.london takes a look at the latest stories surrounding the Lille forward as the winter window edges closer to opening once again.

Striker candidates

Arsenal are drawing up a list of potential candidates to lead the line, according to the Evening Standard.

Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin is reportedly at the top of the pile, whilst David is someone who the north Londoners admire and have scouted previously.

When considering the fact that Everton will be demanding huge money for the Englishman, it appears that David is likely to be the more realistic candidate and has previously stated that he would ‘love’ to play in the English top flight.

Agent gives Arsenal major hope

David’s agent Nick Mavromaras has recently spoken about how the Premier League is a great option for his client.

It’s reported that both Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in signing the Canadian international and whilst a deal in January currently seems unlikely, Mavromaras confirms that the player will leave in the summer.

“I think the Premier League is a great option for him. I think he likes Spain a lot too. These two leagues are the main priorities for him, but nothing is being ruled out,” he said to Radio Canada in a recent podcast

“For us, the goal is to finish the season with Lille, but this will be his last season there for several reasons.”

Real Madrid interest

What could throw a spanner in the works in Arsenal’s pursuit of David is Real Madrid’s interest in the player.

According to Spanish news publication Marca, manager Carlo Ancelotti sees David as a “promising talent” who would be a welcome addition to his squad.

Madrid want to bolster their attack and be in a strong position once Karim Benzema contract ends and David is viewed as the long term solution.
