Jorginho drops hint about his Chelsea future after Champions League final victory

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has set his sights on creating more “special moments” at Stamford Bridge after helping the club win the UEFA Champions League on Saturday evening.

After getting the better of Real Madrid at the semi-final stage, the Blues, who will discover their fixture list for the 2021/22 Premier League campaign in a little over a fortnight’s time, ensured that their European adventure was to end in the best way possible, as Kai Havertz’s first Champions League goal secured a 1-0 win over Manchester City at the Estadio do Dragao.

From Edouard Mendy between the sticks to Timo Werner spearheading the forward line, Chelsea, to a man, were superb and fully deserved the victory.

But even though the celebrations have probably not yet died down, you can guarantee that Thomas Tuchel, the Blues head coach, will already putting plans in place for next season, as he looks to try and turn his side into genuine Premier League title contenders. But for that to happen, the Blues boss knows he needs to strengthen in some areas of his squad, especially in attack.

But in central-midfield he already has a solid base to work with, as N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho have all been excellent ever since he arrived in west London towards the end of January.

Prior to Tuchel’s arrival, Jorginho had been heavily linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge, with game time and minutes proving limited under Frank Lampard. However, his Blues career has been revitalised by Tuchel, so much so that any plans he had of leaving the club appear to have been shelved.

That is because the Italian, who will be hoping to impress for his country at Euro 2020 this month, has signalled his intentions to stay at Stamford Bridge following the weekend’s Champions League triumph.

“Another year together! This group is family, is team, is home!,” Jorginho posted on his Instagram page last night.

“We achieved something big and living it with all of you guys made it even more special! Thanks guys, see you very soon for many other special moments together.”

With Jorginho having pledged that he plans to make more memories at Stamford Bridge, it is highly unlikely that he will leave the club this summer and return to his homeland, with Napoli and Juventus amongst the clubs to have been previously linked with his signature.

Since Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge, Jorginho has been an almost ever-present figure, racking up 25 appearances.

As well as that, the Italian also ended the Premier League campaign as Chelsea’s joint-highest goalscorer with seven.

Recently, Joao Santos, Jorginho’s agent, confirmed that the midfielder would remain at Stamford Bridge this summer.

He said: “He has a two-year contract with Chelsea. He thinks about playing the European Championship. And then the World Cup in Qatar.

“He will remain at Chelsea, one hundred percent.”

Last month, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insisted that the Blues are planning to open talks with Jorginho over signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
