Jorginho’s new contract hint revealed as Steven Gerrard’s verdict on Romelu Lukaku is exposed

Here are your football.london Chelsea morning headlines on Saturday, November 13.

Jorginho’s new contract hint

The Italian’s agent Joao Santos has hinted that his client could sign a new contract with the west London outfit but at the same time didn’t rule out an exit, Sport Witness reports.

Over the past few summer windows, the Brazil-born Italy international has continually been linked with a move back to Serie A, where Napoli and Juventus have been named as possible destinations.

But it seems as though Marina Granovskaia’s aim is to tie down the regista to new and improved terms in the capital as Thomas Tuchel views J5 as an important player going forward.

“Never say never [to Jorginho returning to Napoli], because the market is very dynamic. [Chelsea director] Marina Granovskaia, however, has already let us know that she wants to renew his contract, so we’ll see what happens,” Santos said, as relayed by Area Napoli.

The 29-year-old’s current deal expires in 2023.

Steven Gerrard’s Romelu Lukaku worry revealed

New Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has questioned Chelsea’s club record signing Romelu Lukaku in the past, doubting his ability to compete with top class strikers and dealing with the pressure that comes with it.

The Liverpool legend was announced on Thursday morning to the delight of Aston Villa fans and to the dismay of the Rangers faithful.

We already know the reasons why Gerrard snubbed a previous move to west London but his previous comments now on the £97.5m man in question has caused more beef between the new Premier League manager and the European Champions.

On the record, the ex-pundit who was a regular on BT Sport, had questioned the mentality and ability Lukaku possessed to deal with competition at Manchester United with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“It will be interesting to see how he reacts when Ibrahimovic is back fit and is breathing down his neck for a starting position. Can he cope with that pressure?”

Ben Chilwell settles the Reece James vs Trent Alexander-Arnold debate

England and Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell has labelled Blues teammate Reece James ‘the best’ on international duty amid the ongoing Trent Alexander-Arnold debate.

James, 21, has been one of the shining lights this season already for Thomas Tuchel and co. with his four crucial goals that currently have the European Champions top of the table in the Premier League going into the November international break.

“This is the best I’ve performed,” he said in his England press conference ahead of Albania and San Marino World Cup qualifiers. “Recent results and performances have shown that as well. We’re creating a lot of chances and we have great players around us.”

Amid this domestic break for the players in question, their international teammate Chilwell may have just settled the debate that has even split journalistic opinion in the past too.

The ex-Leicester man was caught in deep conversation with the 21-year-old and as he approached the filming camera, he stated: “My right-back.”

This was followed by the illustrious two-word verdict that may have helped calm the debate: “The best.”
