Lee Dixon and Roberto Martinez agree on Alexandre Lacazette after Arsenal’s win vs Wolves

A trio of pundits have praised Alexandre Lacazette following his performance in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Wolves on Thursday night.

The Frenchman‘s contract runs out at the end of the season, and even though he hasn’t scored since Boxing Day, he is playing an integral role in the Gunners’ side as their foremost leader.

He played a major part in Arsenal‘s last-gasp winner against Wolves too, as it was his shot that deflected past Jose Sa into the top corner to earn Mikel Arteta’s side a vital three points in the race for Champions League football.

He may not be finding the net as regularly as he’s used to, but Arsenal legend Lee Dixon insists that he’s going about things in the right way.

Speaking on Prime Video after the game, the former Gunners full-back said: “To be fair to him, he leaves everything on that pitch and fans very rarely look at his performance and go, he could have given more.”

Belgian national team boss Roberto Martinez is of a similar opinion as he thinks that Lacazette is showing his worth as the stand-in captain.

“I think that focus and concentration is something that you want from those experienced players with so many young players around the team, you need that, and without a doubt he had a pivotal role in the victory this evening.”

Former Chelsea and England striker Eniola Aluko was also impressed with Lacazette’s work rate and has suggested that he’s buying into Arteta’s project.

“What impressed me about his performance was his work rate, particularly in the first half,” Aluko added.

“He was defending, clearing the ball and his work rate from the front. In the first half, he rarely threatened Conor Coady, he was very comfortable with dealing with him but in the second half there was a lot more movement around him and with that movement, it created the space that allowed him to score the winner.

“I think his overall performance shows that there is a player there and that he is buying into what Arteta is building at the Emirates.”
