Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has named Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante as his toughest ever opponent.
Kante has enjoyed a stellar year with the Blues, delivering a number of world-class performances to help Thomas Tuchel’s side capture the UEFA Champions League last season.
The Frenchman’s consistent displays even earned him a nomination for the 2021 Ballon d’Or alongside club teammates Mason Mount, Jorginho, Romelu Lukaku and Cesar Azpilicueta.
Now, City star Gundogan has heaped praise on the 30-year-old, admitting that his work ethic makes him almost impossible to play against.
When asked by The Metro who his toughest opponent has been, the German international said: “Probably someone like N’Golo Kante, just the fact that you know you pass him and you feel like he cannot come back anymore.
“And then a couple of seconds later when you think you have a bit of space and time, he’s there.
“He’s incredible, the amount of work that he puts into the game, it’s just unbelievable.”
Blues’ head coach Tuchel has made no secret of his admiration for the former Leicester City star, consistently hailing him as a complete midfielder.

Speaking back in September, he said: “Top player, if you have N’Golo you have something everyone is looking for.
“You have everything you need in midfield, you have work rate, intensity, ball wins, skilful play, dribbles, half-field drives and even a goal.
“I see this every day in training and it is hard to believe how good he is. He is a unique guy, there are no more words from me. N’Golo is N’Golo, he is fantastic.”
