Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has been charged with two additional rape counts on top of the four announced in late August. The Crown Prosecution Service announced that they had authorized Cheshire Constabulary to charge Mendy and another man, Louis Saha Mattuire, and summoned both to appear in court on Wednesday,

The France international, 27, will appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday and remains in custody with six counts of rape and one of sexual assault against him.

Mendy’s charges relate to four complaints from alleged victims over the age of 16 between October 2020 and August 2021.

The player, who joined City from AC Monaco back in 2017, and was part of the French squad which won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia was suspended by City after police charges, pending an investigation.

Mendy and Mattuire, who has since been linked with the case, are due to go on trial in late January of 2022 after being charged with four counts of rape between March and August of 2021.

The 40-year-old Mattuire has also been hit with two additional rape counts and one of sexual assault and has also been called to appear at court this week.
