Marina Granovskaia has Timo Werner transfer plan to bring Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea

Chelsea are on the search for a world-class striker this summer as Thomas Tuchel prepares for his first full season in charge at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues, who clinched their second-ever Champions League trophy in May, will be looking to mount a serious title challenge in the Premier League next term but know they need to get things right this summer in order to do so.

football.london understands that Erling Haaland is the club’s main target, but a deal for the Borussia Dortmund and Norway striker is likely to cost way over £100million, meaning there is a chance that alternatives could be identified.

And, according to reports, Romelu Lukaku has emerged as a possible alternative to Haaland, with the Belgium star having a fine season for both club and country last time out.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia seemingly has a plan in order to re-sign the former Blues striker, who netted 30 goals in 44 games in all competitions for Inter Milan throughout the 2020/21 campaign.

Lukaku left Chelsea on a permanent basis in July 2014, joining Everton for around £31million after impressing on loan at Goodison Park.

The 28-year-old striker then moved to Manchester United for £76million three years later before making the switch to Inter in the summer of 2019.

Now, according to Italian football journalist Alfredo Pedulla, via Sempre Inter, Chelsea are interested in re-signing the Belgium international and could offer Timo Werner in the deal.

Sky Germany recently reported that the Blues were open to the idea of selling Werner, despite the former RB Leipzig striker having just one season in the Premier League.

Inter, though, have made their feelings perfectly clear on Lukaku leaving the San Siro this summer.

The Italian club’s chief executive, Beppe Marotta, told Mediaset, via 90Min, earlier this month: “Romelu Lukaku is untouchable for us this summer, absolutely. He’s a key player for Inter.”

Lukaku himself also ruled out leaving the 2020/21 Serie A champions in this transfer window, with the striker having three years remaining on his deal in Milan.

Talking to Belgium broadcaster VTM in June, he said: “Yes, I’m staying at Inter. Maybe I shouldn’t say it yet but I’ve already talked with the man who is likely to become the new coach. it was a very positive conversation.”
