Marina Granovskaia told why to splurge £130million on Antonio Rudiger’s Chelsea replacement

Marina Granovskaia has been told why she needs to pay £62million more on Matthijs De Ligt instead of the cheaper Jules Kounde as the Dutchman is seen as a potential Antonio Rudiger replacement.

Amidst all the drama going on regarding the Chelsea number 2’s future, work is underway identifying potential replacements if the worst happens in the summer.

Dean Jones of Eurosport, coupled with Goal, have both reported that De Ligt and Jules Kounde, alongside others like Pau Torres are options that the European Champions are considering ahead of a potential transfer swoop.

The Blues could be heading into next season low on defensive options amid the ongoing uncertainty over the futures of Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and the aforementioned Rudiger – all of which are out of contract at the end of the current season.

football.london understands that Granovskaia’s latest offer of around £140,000 a week is still £60,000 short of the German’s demands, therefore leading to an impasse in negotiations and most importantly- other options being considered.

This update coupled with Mino Raiola’s recent admission on his client has pricked up the ears of everything associated with the west Londoners.

“De Ligt and Romagnoli are among the strongest defenders in Europe. De Ligt has a contract, while Romagnoli’s deal expires next year,” said Raiola in an interview with Tuttosport via Calciomercato back in September.

“Yes, I think they could play together at Juventus next year, but be careful because De Ligt could also leave Juventus at the end of the season. This is how the market works, there are many clubs who are interested in his services.”

Looking at potential centre-back targets for the west London club, other than age and price-tag, there isn’t much to separate De Ligt and Kounde but Edwin van der Sar’s comments on the former Ajax man may sway the balance in his favour over the Frenchman- both of which are seen as credible candidates by Chelsea.

In an interview earlier this month, the Manchester United legend told Tuttsport via Calciomercato: “Matthijs in Juventus has two masters like Chiellini and Bonucci, but he is playing a lot anyway.

“The value of De Ligt is unquestionable. But let’s not forget that at 22 years old. Some criticism is normal, he is part of football, but Matthijs is a boy who loves challenges. He is a top player and has a great mentality: he works hard to improve himself.

“I haven’t seen him in training for two and a half years, but I assure you that when he played with us as a spirit he always reminded me of the young Cristiano Ronaldo that I had as teammates at Manchester United.

“De Ligt, even early in the morning, when he was not on the pitch you could find him in the gym “.

“De Ligt will be the leader of Juventus’ defence if he remains at the club when the likes of Chiellini and Bonucci have left or retired.”

This kind of leadership and good attitude as described by Van der Sar would be warmly welcomed by Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea who saw just how good the 22-year-old was when his side lost to Juventus recently in the Champions League Group H clash in Turin.
