Ainsley Maitland-Niles certainly enjoyed his return to London over the weekend.
West Brom shocked Chelsea with a 5-2 win at Stamford Bridge in a match that saw the Arsenal midfielder continue his progression under Sam Allardyce.
Maitland-Niles made the move to the Hawthorns during the January transfer window, sealing a loan move on deadline day and has now made eight appearances for the relegation strugglers.
The latest of which came on Saturday – a few hours before the Gunners were humbled at home to Liverpool – as he played the full 90 minutes of the Baggies’ brilliant win over the Blues.
It’s only the second time Maitland-Niles has celebrated a win in a West Brom shirt and given his ties to Arsenal, it’s one he will savour for weeks to come.
Once again, the 23-year-old was given the chance to impress as a central midfielder as opposed to the full-back role where he caught the eye with Arsenal.
Since the move, the general reaction to his performances have been mixed, with many Gunners supporters urging him to reconsider his stance about his favoured position following his debut against Tottenham.
But the reaction has been positive following events in west London.
Despite not getting on the scoresheet or claiming an assist, fans of Maitland-Niles’ parent club were delighted that he played a role in a win over their London rivals.
