Matteo Guendouzi gives Manchester United leverage in transfer window after latest Arsenal snub – Bailey Keogh

Matteo Guendouzi is on the verge of helping Manchester United strengthen their squad in the upcoming transfer window.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, United are interested in signing Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who is available to be signed in January after rejecting a contract extension.

Kamara’s availability in the transfer window could partly be due to Guendouzi’s likelihood of making his loan to Marseille a permanent transfer in the summer, as both players are midfielders, and the French club could afford to lose the defensive midfielder.

This has been strengthened by Guendouzi’s recent comments which confirms that he will be returning to Les Phocéens on a permanent transfer in the summer.

When speaking about his future ahead of next season, Guendouzi said: “If the club stays in Ligue 1, I’ll stay at OM. I signed to make a long-term commitment here.

Boubacar Kamara's contract at Marseille will run out in summer 2022 and Manchester United could be eyeing up the midfielder for a January transfer.

“I’m not just for this year, but also for the rest of my career.”

Guendouzi was loaned out to Marseille after reportedly falling out with Mikel Arteta. The Frenchman had been constantly criticised for his questionable attitude which was seen by fans after his antics against Brighton in 2020 following his altercation with Neal Maupay.

Arteta never gave him a Premier League start after this and shipped him out on loan to German side Hertha Berlin as soon as the transfer window opened, this was then followed up by his move to Marseille.

The Frenchman’s loan move to the Ligue 1 side was included with an obligation-to-buy unless the club were miraculously relegated.

This had angered some Arsenal fans, who believed that Guendouzi is equipped with so much potential, and the Gunners will be making a mistake by letting him leave so early into his career.

But the discontent could grow further if Manchester United are able to secure the services of Kamara.

Arsenal and the Manchester side are currently battling for the top four positions, and will certainly be league rivals in the coming seasons, so Edu could be giving United the advantage with the agreed sale of Guendouzi, which would open the door for Kamara to join the Red Devils.
