Michael Owen makes exciting Mason Mount claim that Chelsea fans will love

Michael Owen believes Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount could be as good as Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in the future.

Mount has been fabulous for the Blues this season and Wednesday night’s display against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final second leg epitomised what he’s brought to the side during this campaign.

The 22-year-old netted Chelsea’s second goal late on in the tie to put the club’s progress to the final beyond any reasonable doubt.

Likewise, Haaland and Mbappe have been in breathtaking form for Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain respectively – and have been tipped to become Europe’s next two best players.

However, former Liverpool striker Owen thinks Mount, as well as Manchester City youngster Phil Foden, could be right up there with the aforementioned duo.

Speaking after Chelsea’s win against Real Madrid on BT Sport, Owen said: “It’s so exciting for the summer with England.

“I think Mason Mount and Phil Foden could be two of the best players in the world in the future, I think they’re that good. It’s so exciting to watch their progress.

“I honestly think they’re going to get there (up there with Mbappe and Haaland), certainly Foden.

“In fact, seeing Mount live here, I think he’s a phenomenal player but Foden could develop into one of the best players England have ever seen.”

Mount’s late strike against Los Blancos was his ninth goal in all competitions this season for Chelsea, with the youngster also registering eight assists for his team-mates.

The England international has been tipped to start for Gareth Southgate’s team at the delayed European Championships this summer.

Likewise with Foden, who has been in sensational form for Manchester City this season and could start alongside Mount for the Three Lions in the Euros.
