Mikel Arteta and Edu told their first January transfer as Arsenal fans ‘beg’ for £42m star

Some Arsenal supporters are in agreement that they want the club to sign Christopher Nkunku in the January transfer window.

According to a recent report from Italian news outlet Calciomercato, the north London club are interested in signing the 23-year-old, who is valued at £42.3million on football database Transfermarkt.

Nkunku has been hugely impressive for RB Leipzig since making the £11.7m move from Paris Saint-Germain in the 2019 summer transfer window – and his latest heroics saw him punish his former club.

The Leipzig star, who has just less than three years remaining on his contract at the Red Bull Arena, opened the scoring for the German outfit in their 2-2 draw with PSG on Wednesday night in the Champions League.

The goal for Nkunku was his fifth of the Champions League campaign – in just four games – as he continues his fine form in front of goal for Leipzig, and it has left some Arsenal fans purring over his talent, with a clear demand to the club’s board.

The former France Under-21s star was recently asked about constant speculation over his future in Germany, but refused to be drawn on the rumours.

He told Bild (via Sport Witness): “If I was thinking of other clubs, we might as well forget our season goals. Big goals of our own are only realistic if we achieve something with Leipzig. Otherwise, these questions do not arise.

“I still have a contract until 2024 and I feel very comfortable at RB Leipzig.”

Nkunku’s performances for Leipzig in recent times has seen his reputation grow around Europe, and his manager Jesse Marsch said earlier in the season that his player “has no weaknesses”.

“We have spoken to Christopher a lot about playing on the counter, and also what he needs to do to play as a striker, a number 10 and on both wings,” Marsch was quoted by the German club’s website.

“Christopher has no weaknesses. He is young and still wants a lot more. It’s always a good thing when a young player listens to the things we say and also wants to implement them.

“Working with him is a lot of fun as he is really intelligent and has a lot of potential.”

Mikel Arteta has now been told by Arsenal supporters who his first signing of the January transfer window should be, but if the Gunners were to make a move for Nkunku, as some reports in Italy suggest, then Leipzig would surely demand over his £42.3m value.
