Mikel Arteta put on red alert after £47m Ligue 1 star sends Arsenal major transfer notice – Bailey Keogh

Arsenal have been given a boost in their attempts to sign Jonathan David, following recent comments made by the player’s agent.

The Gunners have been heavily linked to the Lille forward who has been excelling in the Champions League and Ligue 1 so far this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side has an emerging striker crisis approaching in January and the summer transfer window, as multiple forwards are set to leave the club.

Edu will need to sign a striker or two in the upcoming transfer windows, and he has been given a boost in completing a signing after comments made by David’s agent, Nick Mavromaras.

Speaking to Radio Canada, Mavromaras said: “For us, the objective is to finish the season in Lille, but it will be his last season there for several reasons.”

David has been performing excellently this season in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League, as he played a pivotal part in the club’s European knockout stage progression.

At just 21-years-old, the Canadian international already has 11 goals in Ligue 1 this season, which is the highest in a league that boasts the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

And the Gunners are certainly considered as one of the favourites to land the youngster’s signature in a £47m deal after David admitted his admiration for the club when he was growing up. “European clubs made me dream,” he told L’Equipe earlier this year.

“I watched Barca a lot, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, with Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira.”

The Gunners are in desperate need of a new striker which was emphasised after the recent omission of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been left out of the last four matchday squads due to disciplinary issues which also resulted in his loss of the Arsenal captaincy.

His future is in doubt alongside Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette, with their contracts set to expire in the summer, and it currently seems like a certainty that both strikers will be departing.

Folarin Balogun is also set to leave the club on a loan move in January according to reports, so Arsenal will be extremely short in the striker position.

Edu has been gifted a wonderful opportunity to sign a striker with world-class potential, and it is certainly a deal he should look to pursue.
