Mohamed Elneny’s agent reveals Arsenal contract stance amid transfer interest from Turkey

Mohamed Elneny wants to stay at Arsenal as talks to extend his contract at the Emirates Stadium progress.

That’s the message from his agent Alan Nazmy, with both parties keen to come to an agreement to extend terms beyond the summer of 2022.

Amid question marks over his long-term future at the Premier League club, the Egyptian has made 31 appearances across all competitions this season.

It comes on the back of a season-long loan with Besiktas in 2019/2020 – prompting suggestions that Elneny could return to Turkey on a permanent basis.

Those rumours have seemingly been cast to one side, though, as Nazmy shed light on the future of a player who has won 80 caps for his country.

Speaking to Turkish outlet Yallakora, Nazmy said: “Leaving to the Turkish league is among the rumours surrounding Mohamed.

“The player has a season left on his contract and we are currently working on renewing the contract. The player’s ambitions are to continue [with Arsenal], after earning the confidence of his coach Arteta. This is his first choice.”

On reported interest in Elneny, Nazmy added: “There are several offers for Mohamed. In the coming period, things will be decided, whether to accept one of these offers or continue to line up at Arsenal.”

Having started his career in Switzerland with Basel, the Egyptian midfielder, now 28, moved to Arsenal for around £5million during the January transfer window in 2016.

As things stand, Elneny has played 62 games in the Premier League and has passed 100 appearances for the club in all competitions.

All four of his goals for the Gunners have come in the Europa League, including his most recent strike against Greek side Olympiakos earlier this month.
