Moussa Dembele has already delivered verdict on transfer amid Arsenal interest

Arsenal are weighing up a move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele ahead of what is shaping up to be a busy summer at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta has made it clear his squad needs overhauling, and Dembele is said to be someone he is interested in, according to reports.

The Frenchman has had a difficult few months out in Spain after signing for Atletico on loan in January. However, considering what Lyon’s Sporting Director Juninho said about him wanting to leave the club back then, it seems as though he won’t be planning on returning to the Ligue 1 outfit when his loan spell ends.

Speaking back in January, Juninho said: “Moussa came to see me, he thinks that this is the moment to change teams, that he has lost a bit of motivation, this was not something we foresaw, I like him a lot.”

Atletico do have an option to buy Dembele for around £30m but it remains unclear as to whether they’ll choose to exercise that after his fitness issues and lack of playing time.

With all that firmly in mind, Arsenal are reportedly monitoring his situation, and believe he will be available for a fee in the region of the £25million mark, as per Telegraph Sport.

Lyon’s president, Jean-Michel Aulas, is known to be one of Europe’s toughest negotiators, but the Gunners are confident they can close an agreement, and will want to do so quickly amid growing uncertainty over the futures of frontmen Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.

Dembele netted 44 times in just two seasons for Lyon, and could be the ideal replacement for Lacazette, should Arsenal choose to cash in on him with only one year left on his current deal.
