Arsenal fans have been reacting to Gabriel Martinelli’s sublime piece of skill produced in the Carabao Cup against AFC Wimbledon this week.
The Brazilian forward started the match alongside Nketiah and Lacazette in Arsenal’s front three and showed off some of his best moves to get out of a tight space after 13 minutes.
Being pressed for the ball right in front of manager Mikel Arteta, Martinelli managed to produce a clean drag-back with his right foot before backheeling the ball into the path of the waiting Ainsley Maitland-Niles with his left foot to get the ball free.
The move came as AFC Wimbledon were pressing Arsenal high up the pitch, with Lacazette having just opened the scoring from the penalty spot.
It didn’t take long before Arsenal fans rushed to social media to praise the Brazilian, with DeemonPankaik saying: “There’s something special about Brazilian players.”
Other Gunners fans suggested that 20-year-old Martinelli needed time away from the club in order to flourish, while sameol-sameol suggested the Brazilian should be played on the wing more following his bit of flair on the touchline.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is currently deciding who should get the nod to start for the Gunners in their next match against bitter north London rivals Tottenham at the Emirates on Sunday.
Martinelli has only featured twice for the club in the Premier League this season, and speaking to the press before the match Arteta said he wasn’t fully decided on a number of selections for the big game.
“Everybody has a chance obviously we’re not going to tell you what we are going to do in terms of the line up.,” said the Spaniard on Friday.
“There are a few positions where we are deciding and we hope to make the right decision.”
