Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Neymar will miss at least six to eight weeks of action after suffering ankle ligament damage in the 3-1 victory away at AS Saint-Etienne on Sunday.

The Brazil international went over on his left ankle towards the end of the fightback win after having an early goal ruled out for offside via VAR and the French giants have specified an initial expected layoff with further tests coming in the next 72 hours.

“The examinations carried out last night confirm that Neymar Jr suffered from a sprained left ankle with ligament damage,” read PSG’s medical update. “An unavailability of 6 to 8 weeks is expected. A new update will be made in 72 hours to clarify the diagnosis.”

Neymar will miss the UEFA Champions League dead rubber with Club Brugge at Parc des Princes as well as OGC Nice and AS Monaco at home in Ligue 1 and high-flying RC Lens away too and could be a doubt for January and February’s internationals with Brazil.

In better news for Mauricio Pochettino and his men, Marco Verratti is back in training while Mauro Icardi will also resume training ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Nice. Georginio Wijnaldum and Ander Herrera are expected back later in the week while Julian Draxler remains a few weeks short.
