Palace fans agree with Ian Wright about Conor Gallagher with transfer message after England call

Crystal Palace fans are celebrating this morning after Eagles loanee Conor Gallagher received his first call-up to the senior England squad.

The 21-year-old has impressed on loan at Palace from Chelsea so far this season, which has now seen him rewarded with his first call-up to the England senior team, as reported by football.london last night.

Gallagher, who has played for the Three Lions from Under-17 through to Under-21s, has been drafted into Gareth Southgate’s squad, with Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson and Manchester City’s Jack Grealish returning to their respective clubs for injury assessments.

He has already joined up with Southgate’s side and will take part in training with them on Sunday morning before flying to San Marino in the afternoon.

The midfielder has spoken of his delight at the call-up, with Gallagher looking to take his club form to the senior international stage after scoring four goals in 11 appearances for the Eagles so far this term.

It is not just Gallagher who is delighted though, with former Crystal Palace striker Ian Wright congratulating the midfielder as he took to social media following the announcement of his call-up, simply putting six clap emojis.

Palace fans have also been taking to social media to praise the Chelsea loanee and send a transfer message to Eagles chairman Steve Parish.

Here’s what they have been saying.

England will be looking to book their place at the 2022 World Cup, with only a point needed from their game against San Marino to ensure their qualification as Group I winners.

If he gets on the pitch, Gallagher will become only the fifth player this century to represent England while also playing for Crystal Palace.

Andy Johnson did so in 2005, before Wilfried Zaha (2012), Andros Townsend (2016) and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (2017) – who was also on loan from Chelsea at the time – all followed suit.
