Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino has once again shot down rumors linking him with a move to Manchester United soon without fully distancing himself from the future managerial role at Old Trafford.

Speaking at PSG’s pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash with AS Saint-Etienne, the Argentine stressed that the recent stories about his future and interest in Zinedine Zidane as a replacement are out of his and the French giants’ control.

“We are always focused on the football — our games and our work,” said Pochettino when asked about sporting director Leonardo’s Friday comments. “It is not us, nor the club, who generate these situations. It does not affect us.

“I am focused on PSG. We are used to rumors arriving. When they do arrive, it is a good sign that there are many of them — it is a sign that we are doing good work. We are calm and humble. It is not us creating these rumors.”

Leonardo spoke publicly on Friday and rejected the idea that PSG could separate with another boss midseason even though the Brazilian has done that twice over his two spells at Parc des Princes, both with Thomas Tuchel last year and Antoine Kombouare’s dismissal to appoint Carlo Ancelotti during Leonardo’s stint in charge.

“We do not want Mauricio Pochettino to go,” Leonardo told Agence France-Presse. “He has never asked to leave, and nobody has contacted us for him. We respect Zinedine Zidane a lot, both as a player and coach, but I tell you very clearly that there has been no contact. No meeting.”

Finally, Pochettino was quizzed on whether he prefers English roast beef or French bœuf bourguignon (beef stew) and his response was arguably the most interesting of the entire press conference: “Always an Argentine barbecue!”
