Ralf Rangnick likens Chelsea star to Johan Cruyff as Real Madrid wary of Rudiger wage demands

Welcome to our football.london CareFree Chelsea daily news round-up. Maybe not the first, we’ve definitely done transfer round-ups before, and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways it’s not that new at all.

Anyway, we thought we would enter the world of football in a broad and roundabout manner for you and have some fun with some of the stories and captions doing the daily rounds.

Real Madrid hesitant on Rudiger signing due to wages

Real Madrid are liking the idea of signing Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea, but believe his wages will be an issue and are unwilling to pay the 12million Euros a year in wages that he demands.

This is according to Marca who report that Madrid feel the wages the German international is asking for is too high considering he is ‘not as good’ as David Alaba.

Our view: It’s such a shame that this entire debacle is taking an age to resolve and Rudiger’s future is still not tied down to Chelsea. The message seems to be clear from multiple clubs – his wage demands are too high.

Thiago Silva prepared for Cristiano Ronaldo

Chelsea face Manchester United in today’s late fixture at Stamford Bridge and with Cristiano Ronaldo being a big attacking threat in the game, Thiago Silva has compared the striker as easier to deal with compared to Lionel Messi.

Yes, it’s another Messi vs Ronaldo argument and comparison – only this time it’s which one is easier to defend against. In 2018 the Brazilian international told ESPN that Ronaldo can be an easier target to mark.

“The small difference is that Messi, with the ball in a one-on-one or a two-on-one, is difficult to stop,” Silva said.

“With Ronaldo, I am not saying that it is easy, but one player can mark and the other can monitor – doing that gives you more security at the back.”

Our view: United are not going to be an easy opponent and Chelsea will benefit from the know-how of Silva, who has played against Ronaldo a fair few times to keep him at bay from Edouard Mendy’s goal.

Havertz is the modern Cruyff

Manchester United’s new interim boss, Ralf Rangnick has previously likened Kai Havertz as the ‘modern Johan Cruyff’. The German when speaking on Sky Sports in 2020, made the comparison between the 22-year-old and Netherlands legend.

“I have no doubts whatsoever that he will become a sustainable success and that he will become one of the top players in the next two or three years,” Rangnick said.

“Maybe, he will need a couple of weeks to get adjusted because he has a fantastic family background. I know that because I was also trying to convince him to join us at Leipzig, but he was completely dedicated to Bayer Leverkusen.

“He’s one of those players where I don’t see any weaknesses in his game. He’s the type of modern Johan Cruyff – he can score goals and he can provide assists.

“He can play as a nine or nine-and-a-half. I don’t see him as a winger but in the central area of the pitch, he’s extremely valuable.

“I have no doubt that this transfer will prove to be a success story for Chelsea and for Kai. His best position is either a No 10 or in a 4-3-3, he can play as one of the two offensive No 8s in midfield.”

Michael Carrick takes charge of United against Chelsea, with Rangnick likely to officially begin his interim position against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
