Rio Ferdinand is unable to see a ceiling of what Jude Bellingham can achieve in his career, with the Borussia Dortmund midfielder linked with a move to Chelsea.
The 18-year-old, who is valued at £63million on Transfermarkt, moved to Dortmund last summer for just £20m from Birmingham City and has flourished in Germany so far, establishing himself as a regular in the England senior team.
However, Bellingham still has around four years remaining on his contract with the Bundesliga club.
Liverpool are also said to be interested in the Dortmund midfielder, with a report from the Daily Star in September saying that the Reds want to bring the youngster in next summer in a club-record £80m deal.
Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a huge admirer of the England sensation and has made him his number one target, but Ferdinand‘s latest comments on Bellingham show exactly why Chelsea should do all they can to bring him to Stamford Bridge and deliver a blow to their Premier League rivals.
Speaking on his FIVE podcast, Ferdinand said: “(Bellingham is) one of my favourite players to watch at the moment over the last year. A fantastic player. A great character. Huge, huge potential. I do not even see a ceiling yet to what he can achieve.”
Ferdinand is not the only pundit to wax lyrical about Bellingham recently, with Arsenal icon Ian Wright recently saying he is already the complete all-round player.
Speaking on ITV Sport, Wright said: “He has got everything. He will probably run a game like this but what you are seeing – not just in a game like this, but for Dortmund in playing every game – is the maturity of him.
“These games, continually improving. As long as he can keep himself right, keep himself fit, you have to say in a years’ time, he is probably a starter for England.”
Chelsea have been linked with numerous central midfielders in recent weeks, with the likes of Declan Rice and Aurelien Tchouameni both admired by the Blues.
football.london understands that Chelsea could push to sign Rice next summer, while there is definitely an interest in Tchouameni, but Saul Niguez was signed instead at the end of the summer transfer window.
Both of these players seem to be popular choices among the Chelsea supporters, but Bellingham would be a massive coup for Marina Granovskaia to pull off.
