Romelu Lukaku has already explained Chelsea transfer decision amid talk of £103m return

Romelu Lukaku is being linked with a sensational return to Chelsea this summer following Antonio Conte’s departure at Inter.

Lukaku took Serie A by storm this campaign, with the 28-year-old re-establishing himself as one of Europe’s deadliest forwards in Italy. Only Cristiano Ronaldo (29) scored more goals than the Belgium striker in Inter’s title-winning season.

Now, with Conte leaving the San Siro, there is plenty of speculation surrounding the Inter striker’s future at the club, with Chelsea being one of the sides linked with a possible transfer this summer.

According to the Sunday World, Blues owner Roman Abramovich has long seen Lukaku as ‘one of his favourite strikers’ and is keen to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.

The same outlet are saying that Lukaku, alongside Jadon Sancho, is a high priority target for the west London club as Thomas Tuchel prepares for his first full season in charge.

His first spell at the Blues came to an end in 2014, where he was sold to Everton following a successful loan spell at Goodison Park.

Many speculated that Jose Mourinho, who was in charge of Chelsea at the time, had something to do with Lukaku’s rather surprising departure, but the Belgian insisted this was not the case, as he explained the real reason why he moved on from the club back in 2015.

Speaking to the Express, via the Daily Star, the former Blues star said: “Choices have been made by me. By me. Not by them.

“Everyone says it is Mourinho’s fault, but it is not his fault because I made the decision. I went to his office to ask if I could go.

“He was the first one to say, ‘Good luck.’ When I signed the deal [at Everton] at 11 o’clock, I got a text message on my old BlackBerry.

“It said: ‘Good luck, do your best and I will see you next season.’

“He was the first, nobody knows that and that is why for me he gets immense respect.”

The Blues have been heavily linked with bringing in a big-name striker this summer, with the side struggling in front of goal throughout this season.

Jorginho finished the Premier League campaign as Chelsea’s top scorer in the top-flight, with seven goals to his name – all coming from the penalty spot.

Harry Kane and Erling Haaland are other names to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with the Lukaku rumours seemingly intensifying since Conte’s Inter exit.
