Ryan Mason provides update on Harry Kane’s ankle injury ahead of Tottenham vs Southampton

Tottenham interim head coach Ryan Mason has confirmed that he is not sure if Harry Kane will be fit for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Man City.

In the headlines on Friday night after taking his Premier League tally to 21 for the season after a brilliant double against Everton, the Spurs striker hobbled off in the final few minutes after sustaining another ankle injury.

Jose Mourinho did reveal moments after the draw at Goodison Park that he wasn’t sure on how severe the issue was but he did state that an update would be provided in the press conference ahead of the Southampton game.

Kane was not on crutches when he was spotted leaving Merseyside but he was walking gingerly, thus leaving plenty of fans concerned ahead of Sunday’s final at Wembley against Pep Guardiola’s men.

Speaking ahead of the Southampton game following confirmation on Tuesday morning that he would be in charge for the remainder of the season, Mason was quizzed about Tottenham’s main man.

“Not sure. Didn’t train today,” said the 29-year-old. “Taking it day by day. Not sure about the weekend yet.”

Mason also confirmed that Matt Doherty is back in contention for the Southampton game after not featuring since the international break, with Ben Davies still absent after his early return from Wales duty last month.
